Deschutes Democrats

Hi Deschutes Dems,

This will probably be the final message of 2019.  The year is ending with a lot of events still on the calendar.  The big event is tonight at 5pm at Bond and Greenwood in Downtown Bend.  This will be the No One is Above the Law Impeachment Rally.  We also have watch parties this week, 24 candidates for the open Bend Park and Rec seat, transportation bond update, PCP applications, and last chance to make your 2019 donation!

No One is Above the Law Rally Tonight

Bend will have one of over 500 rallies that will happen tonight in all 50 states.  Please join us tonight to send a clear message to the President that no one is above the law.

Attendees will convene at 5:00pm at the southwest corner of Bond and Greenwood and then spread out in single file or in small groups onto the sidewalks lining Bond, Greenwood, and Wall Streets and Newport Avenue.

Rather than marching, by standing quietly along the sidewalks of downtown Bend attendees will be bearing witness to a critical moment in our nation’s history.

As it will be dark, electric candles or flashlights are encouraged and signs, if carried, will need to be illuminated for passers-by to see.

The rally will last from 5:00pm to 6:00pm and since we will be spread out, there will be no speakers.

We may be a passionate group, but we must remain a peaceful one. Attendees are expected to respect all street and sidewalk traffic, and please DO NOT ENGAGE with any counter-protesters that may be present. There’s plenty of room for all.

NEXT MEETING - January 8

Deschutes County Democratic Central Committee meets every 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:30pm (social) 7pm (business) at the Central Oregon Environmental Center at 16 NW Kansas Street in Bend.

The City of Bend has a phone survey as they determine whether they will look towads a bond around 160 million or a bond around 270 million dollars.  Obviously the devil is in the details.  Here is a link to watch the debate during the December 4 meeting.

Oregon provides for a $50 tax credit for an individual making under $100,000 and for a $100 tax credit for joint filers making under $200,000.  Be sure to take advantage of this credit and help support your local party.  If you haven't donated this year, now is the time.  Help us put more progressive candidates in office in 2020.

Become a PCP in 2020

If you are a current Precinct Committee Person (voting member of the local party), it is time to file and ensure you are one for the next two years.  If you are not, now is the time to join.  Elections are in May and you must submit this form by March 10, 2020 to become a PCP.  Forms are due at the Elections Office on Wall Street.  You can also bring them to the next meeting.

Thinking about running or know someone that you think would be great?  Be sure to let us know so we can talk about running for local office and how the local party can help.

Speaking of serving, 24 applicants filed for the vacancy on the Bend Parks and Rec Board.  You can send a comment to the current board by emailing board@bendparksandrec.og.  To see the list, you can read the article in the Bulletin.  The Board is also meeting tonight to begin discussing the vacancy.
